2016 Jeep Renegade vs Kia Soul

Serving Chattanooga, Cleveland, Red Bank, Hixson, TN

The 2016 Jeep Renegade and the Kia Soul may seem similar at first glance due to size. However, the urban-minded Renegade crossover is a true utility vehicle while the Soul is just a compact car. When it comes to performance or off-roading capability, the Renegade is ready to run circles around the Soul.

Performance

The Kia Soul's base engine gets only 130 horsepower. It's no wonder that auto reviewers have called it under-powered. By contrast, the similarly-sized Jeep Renegade has a choice of two engines. The first is a 160-horsepower engine. The second is a turbo with 184 lb.-ft of torque. The Renegade is poised to offer a much better commute to drivers who need its acceleration prowess during competitive highway driving. Unlike the Soul, the Renegade has been constructed tough enough to tow up to 2,000 pounds. It also offers better transmission choices. The Renegade's manual transmission was specially engineered for more effective gear changes. The automatic transmission is exclusive to the automaker. This nine-speed offers more precision than the Soul's six speed.

Adventure

While the Soul may try to compete with the Renegade crossover, it could never take to the trail like this Jeep can. A real SUV in the Jeep tradition, the Renegade offers two all-wheel drive systems. The first is more road oriented, but it does allow some trail excursions. This system features Selec-Terrain with special settings for mud, snow, and sand. The Trailhawk edition is specially designed for off-roading adventures. In the Jeep tradition, the Renegade Trailhawk is an expert at dealing with trail obstacles and challenges. It has skid plates as armor against trail debris. It has more ground clearance than the regular Renegade. The Trailhawk's unique four-wheel drive system is the best for trail riding. The Selec-Terrain system adds a rock setting to ensure easier crawling over debris. Whether you like adventure in the mountains, by the lake, or near the ocean, you'll find this Renegade is a better companion than the Soul could ever be.

Spaciousness

At first glance, the Renegade and the Soul seem to offer the same basic cabin size. However, the Renegade crossover enjoys a more upright design that allows front seat occupants to enjoy the benefits of SUV-style seating. Head room and leg room have been maximized in the Renegade. The crossover's width also gives passengers more room on the back row. Both vehicles have 101 cubic feet of passenger space. The Soul's space drops to 96 cu.ft. if it has a sunroof. Both offer large cargo holds that can be increased for additional space. Only the Renegade can add length with a fold-down front passenger's seat. This chair has a hidden storage compartment, too. The My Sky Roof adds to the Renegade's spaciousness because it is fully removable. The two-panel glass roof can be stored in the trunk to allow the Jeep to feel like a convertible.
