2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Honda Pilot
Serving Chattanooga, Cleveland, Red Bank, Hixson, TN
Because of their versatile design, SUVs have steadily increased in popularity over the years. The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s rugged character and attractive trim packages make it a great option. Advanced technologies such as forward collision warning will ensure that your family remains secure. For the drivers who demand a high level of luxury, the extravagant Summit model comes loaded with upscale features.
The Honda Pilot is known for its family-friendly design. It has the ability to seat up to eight passengers. When equipped with the optional AWD system, the crossover SUV is able to perform well in snowy conditions. Here is how the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee measures up to the new Honda Pilot.
Performance
Both of these SUVs come standard with a muscular V6 engine. Jeep has tuned its popular Pentastar engine to produce an impressive 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The Honda Pilot’s 3.5-liter engine is able to develop 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Cherokee’s impressive pulling power gives it a key advantage over the Pilot. While the V6 Grand Cherokee’s towing capacity stands at 6,200 pounds, the Pilot can only tow 5,000 pounds. Unfortunately, the Pilot fails to offer an optional engine. Cherokee buyers can opt for an efficient EcoDiesel engine or a Hemi V8 engine. Edmunds gives the Grand Cherokee's eight-speed gearbox a high grade for its smooth operation. Meanwhile, the Pilot’s nine-speed transmission is not as responsive in hilly areas.
Off-Road Capabilities
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is among the toughest SUV’s on the market. Although the AWD version of the Pilot can handle a light-duty trail, it is not designed to tackle extremely rough landscapes. On the other hand, the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee is specially engineered for off-road excursions. The Off-Road Adventure package includes several enhancements, including heavy-duty skid plates and all-terrain tires. A convenient Selec-Terrain feature allows you to choose the ideal drive mode. You can also take advantage of the optional air suspension, which allows the SUV to easily climb over obstacles. Some of the other off-road gear includes tow hooks, a locking rear differential, and hill descent control.
Safety
To ensure that the new 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee remains sturdy, high-strength steel was used to construct its chassis. The 4 wheel-drive model’s tough-nosed design helped it earn a five-star safety rating. The Honda Pilot is also stamped with a five-star safety rating. Both vehicles are available with a rear-view camera. Like the Grand Cherokee, the Honda Pilot can be equipped with front and rear parking sensors. If you happen to run into trouble while on the road, you can quickly press the Grand Cherokee’s 9-1-1 Call button. The Honda Pilot fails to offer this potentially life-saving feature. Hill start assist is also not featured on the new Pilot.
The 2016 Honda Pilot is a deserving family vehicle. Nonetheless, the new 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s legendary off-road prowess and powerful engine choices give it the victory. To see how the new Grand Cherokee performs in person, stop by your local Jeep dealer to take a test drive.
