2016 Dodge Challenger vs Ford Mustang
Serving Chattanooga, Cleveland, Red Bank, Hixson, TN
The Dodge Challenger and the Ford Mustang have long histories that date back to their introductions in the 1960s. This year, the Car Connection has written that the Challenger has the leg up on the Mustang. It comes down to personal opinion, but there are definitely ways that the Challenger outshines its competition.
Power
The Challenger is the only muscle car with a Hellcat edition. This turbo V-10 generates 707 horsepower and 650 lb.ft. of torque. The Challenger's top V-8 cranks out 485 horsepower and 475 lb.ft. of torque. On the other hand, the Mustang's top contender is a 435-horsepower V-8 with 400 lb.ft. of torque. That gives the Challenger two high-horsepower/high-torque options to the Mustang's lower-powered top option. Then the Challenger continues to challenge the Mustang by offering yet another V-8. This one cranks out 400 horsepower with 375 lb.-ft. Next, the Challenger V-6 generates a serious 305 horsepower, making it a contender with the best fuel economy. The Mustang offers a 300-horsepower edition and a turbo 310-horsepower edition. With the number of different engine options and higher horsepower ratings, the Challenger wins this category.
Technology
Speed isn't the only requirement for a good sports car. Drivers expect the latest technology. Here the Challenger also shines. It offers the UConnect system which has been widely praised by reviewers from Edmunds to Digital Trends and PC Magazine. This system is as quick on its feet as the Challenger is on its wheels. It responds accurately to input, making it easier for drivers to learn and to use. It has two screen options to choose from, 5-inch and 8-inch models. The graphics and menus are easier than ever thanks to a recent update. The Car Connection calls this system “among the best in the business." On the other hand, it refers to the Sync system found in the Mustang as having earned “a reputation for some quirky behavior." While it has the same basic functions as the UConnect system, it is more problematic. Since drivers need a responsive system in a regular car, it only follows that they need the best possible system in a high-horsepower car.
Personalization
When it comes to personalizing your choice, the Mustang can't match the Challenger. They both offer ten editions, but the Challenger's are truly different. The Challenger has 14 combinations of interior color schemes. There are red seat belts in one edition. The regular seats come in five colors including two sports cloths and three Nappa leathers, including red leather. There are 11 sport seats including nine leather choices with Alcantara inserts. Exterior choices include different hoods, fenders, grilles, and spoilers. There are also different stripes in a variety of colors and widths. All of these options help to provide many unique personal Challengers in a sea of similar Mustangs straight from the dealership.
