2016 Dodge Challenger vs Chevy Camaro
Serving Chattanooga, Cleveland, Red Bank, Hixson, TN
If you want a fast car with attitude, you may have your eye on the 2016 Dodge Challenger. It certainly works hard to stand up to other muscle cars like the 2016 Chevy Camaro. The Challenger’s update last year has positioned it to be ready for the competition with performance, original style, and more. The remarkably big cabin and large trunk make it more of an everyday vehicle than the cramped Camaro.
Performance
While the 2016 Chevy Camaro offers two powertrains, the Challenger offers four plus special features to make the most of every horse under the hood. The Camaro’s base 2.0 L turbocharged powerplant cranks out 275 horsepower, but the base Challenger’s V-6 cranks out 305 horsepower. The Camaro 6.2 L V-8 engine cranks out 455 horsepower. The Dodge Challenger is offered in 3 different size V-8 engine configurations with 5.7L – 375 hp, 6.4 L – 485 hp, and 6.2L supercharged – 707 hp. At the top of the heap, alone now that the Camaro ZL1 has been discontinued, is the Challenger Hellcat. This track-worthy muscle car cranks out 707 horsepower and 650 lb.ft. If you purchase the SRT or the Hellcat, you get a track experience from Dodge.
Customization
The Challenger offers ten trims and numerous packages. The Camaro is offered in four trims. This gives the Challenger a definite edge in the style department. This is especially true when you consider that 14 different interior designs are available. It also has 11 different seats including nine that are leather-clad. The Challenger has many unique body-alteration choices, more than the Camaro can claim. The exclusive Shaker Hood adds to the athletic look while it adds a large induction point for cold air. Then there are the stripe packages which also vary more than the Camaro’s few options. When you start multiplying the many colors, styles, and performance options, it is easy to see how personal the Challenger can be. Regarding color, only the 2016 Dodge Challenger offers the retro Plum Crazy.
Size
The Challenger and the Camaro are both two-door coupes. However, the Camaro has a very cramped backseat and entry is difficult. The Challenger, on the other hand, has a truly spacious backseat. Friends won’t feel squeezed when asked to take a back seat. The trunks are quite different too. The Camaro trunk measures about 8 cu.ft. The Challenger trunk measures 16. cu.ft. That is twice as much space! You can actually travel comfortably in the Challenger, bringing along the luggage and gear you need. The Challenger is an everyday car that just happens to be sporty and fast. The Camaro is definitely less appealing for regular commutes or long trips.
Safety
Both cars have earned five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last year. The 2016 Challenger has already earned its five stars this year. Both cars also offer a blind spot monitor. Lane watch and forward collision alert are additional options on the Challenger.
A test drive of the Challenger can tell you more than words on a page. Stop by your local Dodge dealership in Cleveland and see for yourself if the 2016 Dodge Challenger lives up to expectations.
