The 2022 RAM 2500 is one of two heavy-duty models in the RAM Truck lineup. This impressive truck comes with plenty of power under the hood and a substantial collection of features in the spacious cabins. Impressive Performance and Capability

RAM offers the HD 2500 in two powertrains. The first is a 6.4-liter V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. This naturally aspirated V8 comes standard with an eight-speed automatic.

Buyers who want more torque can upgrade to the Dodge RAM 2500 diesel 4x4 or 4x2. The engine is a 6.7-liter turbocharged inline-six. It delivers less horsepower than the gas-powered model, but the 370 horsepower is plenty for this truck. The 850 lb-ft of torque is what sets apart the diesel engine. RAM pairs the diesel engine with a standard eight-speed automatic, but a six-speed automatic transmission is also available.

The RAM 2500s all come with rear-wheel drive, and the automaker offers available four-wheel drive. The RAM 2500 Power Wagon is only available with four-wheel drive. Because of the truck class, the EPA does not check the fuel economy.

The truck has an impressive towing capacity. The RAM 2500 towing capacity when equipped with the 370-horsepower Cummins diesel is a maximum of 16,870 pounds. When equipped with the V8, it can tow up to 14,370. The towing capacity depends on the drivetrain, cab size, and towing accessories. When it comes to payload, both engines can carry up to 3,240 pounds.

Standard and Optional Safety

The base trim, the Tradesman, comes with several safety features including Height-Adjustable Seat Belts with Pretensioners, Four-Wheel ABS, Brake Assist, Traction Control, and Electronic Stability Control with Anti-Roll technology.

Available driver-assistive features include Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, ParkSense Front and Rear Park Assist, and a 360-Degree Surround View Camera System.

The spacious cabin of the 2022 RAM 2500 comes with plenty of technology for better visibility and entertainment options. Available high-tech lighting features include 15-degree Turning Headlights and an LED Trailer Hitch Light. Interior technology features become more notable on the Big Horn trim. The entry Tradesman trim has a 5.0-inch screen with Bluetooth and six speakers.

On the Big Horn and better trims, the RAM 2500 comes with an 8.0-inch infotainment system loaded with UConnect 5. It includes Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, five USB ports, and at least one 115-volt outlet. Buyers can upgrade to a 12.0-inch infotainment screen and a 17-speaker premium audio system.

The RAM 2500 is Big, Inside and Out

Buyers choose heavy-duty trucks like the RAM 2500 because they are big. The two-door Regular Cab offers seating for two or three. Buyers who need room for more people can choose the Crew Cab or Mega Cab with room for five or six people. The front row legroom in all RAM 2500 models is 40.9 inches, while the second row in the Crew Cab has 40.2 inches of legroom, and the Mega Cab has 43.1 inches.

Cargo space in the bed is another necessary feature for many HD truck buyers. RAM offers the 2500 with two bed sizes. The 6.4-foot bed has 57.5 cubic feet of cargo room, while the 8.0-foot bed has 74.7 cubic feet of cargo space.

The RAM 2500 interior and exterior features change based on the trims. The Tradesman trim comes with steel wheels and a heavy-duty vinyl interior. The Big Horn has styled steel wheels and cloth seats. The RAM Laramie trim has alloy wheels paired with leather-trimmed front heated seats.

The features get even better on the top RAM 2500 Limited trim that has leather seats, upgraded alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, and voice-activated navigation.
